The 272ft-high tower of
St. Botolph's Church in Boston, Lincolnshire, amicably named
'The Stump' rises up
majestically from the totally flat landscape of the Fens. It took nearly a
century from c.1430 onwards to build and really is a marvel to behold.
I visited the place
in 2005 and can testify that it makes a good landmark to navigate by,
especially at night when it is lit up.
There is another tiny but exquisite church dedicated to
Saint Botolph at
Swyncombe in Oxfordshire.
