Ashley's Song

This is my house, I open it to you.
It has hundreds of rooms, but I leave all my furniture outside,
There on the lawn, in the trees, wild beasts roam free.
Their crazy games keep me entertained the whole summer long.

Here by my bed, an altar of wicks and wax.
Each time I sleep the candles flicker but never go out.
When I wake, bright sunlight opens the curtains. ("It's curtains for you now...")
Birdsong (exquisite) opens the doors.

CHORUS:
It's paradise here among the fields,
No-one to disturb the way you feel,
Nobody - just peaceful rolling hills,
So come to me now
And we can play
Your favourite song -
In the autumnal glow,
Sing to the setting sun...
Enjoying what we know
Now that our work is done.

In the gardens, run rabbits and hares,
On the apple tree, thousands of fruits.
The old barn holds its own mysteries,
Telling tales of macabre histories.

In the lounge, cats play piano. [plink plonk plank]
Just beside a vase of fresh flowers
And a magazine with you on the cover,
Singing this song from my dream.

In the studio, sounds merge into new sounds,
Old instruments discover new tunes.
Melodies rise, twist, and evolve,
Harmonies glide in and out and resolve.

LED's glow, indicators flicker and glimmer,
Tones glide - disperse with a shimmer.
All around voices echo in whispers [whispers... whispers... whispers... whispers... whispers... whispers]
Silent sounds from dreams bewitch us.

CHORUS:
It's paradise here among the fields,
No-one to disturb the sounds you hear,
No people - just peaceful rolling hills,
So come with me now
And we can hear
Our favourite song -
In the autumnal glow,
Sing to the setting sun...
Enjoying what we know
Now that our work is done.

Children run around, play hide and seek.
Cuckoo clock chimes three times a week.
Rare birds - sky full of kites.
Lovely days, and heavenly nights...

"Who could want for more?", I ask you.
Peace in the world would be nice too.
These things we hold so dear are important -
Don't let the world block them out when it oughtn't.

CHORUS
It's paradise here alone with you,
No reason to leave this wondrous view
Out here in idyllic pastures new,
So dance with me now
And we can play
Our favourite songs -
In the autumnal glow,
Sing to the setting sun...
Enjoying what we know
Now that our time has come.

This is my song, I dedicate it to you.
