[ The Tilt Yard at Dartington Hall, 2001 ]A Breath Of Fresh Air for clarinet, shakers, vibraphone and piano (2000) 1'33"

This piece was composed in August 2000 on the Explore Composing course at Dartington International Summer School. It expresses the joy to be alive and on holiday in sunny Devon, surrounded by lovely creative people, and is unashamedly melodic as an antidote to much of the tiresome uninspired drivel trotted out these days under the false guise of 'New Music' (but that is a rant for a whole other day...! :-)

I was lucky enough to get my friend Sarah to play the clarinet part (she also performed A Time On My Island Of Art), accompanied by unknown vibraphonist and pianist, with myself on shakers, embellishing the score with improvised offbeats.
